It is July 7, 2009, and we are mid-way through our first monsoon season. We expected daily torrential downpours, but actual rain has been sporadic throughout the period. Daily, it has been cloudy and breezy, which combines into almost hospitable weather - albeit the humidity is a bit high. To date the most interesting fact of this season is that this very morning Alli woke up, stumbled out onto the veranda for her wake up period with coffee, sat down for all of 30 seconds, got back up stumbling back into the house only to reappear a minute later with a blue fleece blanket. She actually took the blanket, wrapped it around herself, and sat back down. The girl has been in India too long - the tropics have altered her metabolism to the point that anything below 68 F is TOO cold. Larrie, author of this post, on the other hand, continues to take morning coffee on the veranda in just shorts allowing the wonderful cool breeze to energize and renew spirit. The present coolness is a welcome relief to what is coming during Sep - Oct time frame.
We have been in India now for nine full months, and Alli and I have yet to turn on the A/C in our bedroom. We did buy a fan that is used to pull cool evening air into the house, and we do use the ceiling fan, but we have been able to resist the temptation of using the A/C. In the past few days, Alli has not used the window fan - too cold, and the ceiling fan is off. She sleeps with the sheet as a cover - pulled right up to the chin and tight.
During their recent trip to US, Jess and Larrie encountered weather in the low 40's (F), and (you have no idea) it felt sooo good. I shudder to think of what is going to happen when we return to four full seasons and the glorious weather that defines the northern tier of the USA. On second thought, maybe I should fear for Jessie and Larrie, because Alli might want to move back to the tropics. Maybe the purchase of property in MN should be advanced such that it becomes real hard to change one's mind....
