Friday I had my Cricket induction during a "for fun" tournament at work. One of the matches was the Leadership Cricket Match. I'm positive it was set up for comic relief.
Knowing virtually nothing about Cricket, I was convinced (coerced) into the game. I thought having not signed up to play, plus wearing open-toed flip-flop sandals instead of tennis shoes, would keep me safe. No go. That's why I am batting barefoot. Once they convinced my coworker to get out on the field in a jumper dress and high-heeled fancy boots, I determined resistance was futile. So there I am, at bat. You'll probably notice in the pictures that I look a lot like I'm ready to hit a softball. What can I say… twenty years on the softball diamond has left its imprint. Once I hit the ball, even though my brain knew I was supposed to bring the bat with me, my arms still flung it back(to the surprise of the person right behind the wickets and the laughter of others).
Oh well! It's not the first time I've been the subject of humor here. Overall, it was a fun hour and next time I'll cheerfully wear my tennis shoes to start.
