Memorial Day 2009, Neihart MT
Jess' summer vacation came to a close in the USA with a Memorial Day visit to our friends Sue & Mike in Neihart, MT as Alli's family, Jess and Larrie ascended to their cabin. By the time we left Neihart, Sue and Mike's dogs (Gaard, Rex, and Brodie) needed a rest from three rather active young folks. Lunch was at Bob's Bar in Neihart, where Sue introduced Jess to the pool table and passed another tradition to Jessie - hangin' @ Bob's. It was a beautiful day for a hike in MT, and a hike to Memorial Falls followed lunch, which was just the ticket to relieve the energy amassed during lunch in the under 5 foot tall crowd. Spring runoff made for a spectacular display in the falls. Thanks to Mike and Sue for hosting us as we close the USA tour. More pictures are at the bottom of the photo album.

A Creek Runs Through It
While in Butte, MT visiting Alli's folks, Jessie went trout fishing. As indicated by the picture, she and grandpa Orvis were successful. Jess has fished in Minnesota with her grandpa Orvis many times, and generally (wink, wink), she out-fishes him. Being an Orvis, Alli's dad has enjoyed fishing all his life, and with Jess the new generation is being handed one of the most ancient traditions of being human. Update: Jess and Grampa Orvis went fishing again, and Jess caught the one that got away the day before. The fish in Butte, MT beware - a new generation is hooked!

Jessi in Idaho. My daughter!
While Jessie and Larrie were in Idaho, grampa took Jess out for her first live ammo target practice. Jess enjoyed this opportunity immensely, and she had to have a repeat practice session. The full set of pictures are in the photo album. KarnatakaTabbies followers who knew Alli in her youth have commented that Jessie looks a lot like her mother in this picture.
Idaho Squirrels and Jessie
Jessie and Larrie are touring the USA during summer vacation. During a visit with Larrie's dad in Blackfoot, Idaho, Jessica had a great time feeding grampa's resident squirrel population. This momma squirrel took several peanuts from Jess. At first she would take a nut and scamper away to eat it, but after awhile trust was built and she just would consume the nut in front of Jess. If you go to the photo album, you'll see a progression of the feeding process - including a well fed squirrel reposing on a tree branch to full to move.
